Windcave seeks a hands-on Mechanical Engineer to design and develop payment terminals and embedded electronic products used by merchants worldwide.

An ideal candidate would be at intermediate level willing to independently work and contribute as part of the team, with proven experience in consumer electronic products or other electronic hardware essential.

• Strong prototyping and test jig development skills.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for complex electronics and consumer products from concept to manufacture.
• Own design duties and support the engineering team and current product range.
• Ensure designs meet reliability and security standards audited by PCI PTS labs.
• Help Sales and Quality Assurance teams understand designs to extract maximum performance.
• Collaborate with Hardware, Software, Test and Manufacturing teams; report to Mechanical Engineering Manager.

Job description

Windcave seeks a hands-on Mechanical Engineer; to design and develop payment terminals and embedded electronic products used by merchants worldwide.

An ideal candidate would be at intermediate level willing to independently work and contribute as part of the team. Proven experience designing consumer electronic products or other electronic hardware products is essential.

You will be sufficiently skilled to take ownership of this role to perform design duties, developing products from initial concept through to manufacture while supporting the engineering team and our current product range. Your designs will be audited for reliability and security by globally recognized security labs to stringent standards such as PCI PTS. You will need to solve security problems and be able to defend these decisions. You'll also need to help our Sales and Quality Assurance teams understand the designs to extract maximum performance for the end customer.

You will report to the Mechanical Engineering Manager and be required to work alongside Hardware, Software, Test and Manufacturing teams. To excel in this environment, you will require at least 5 years prior experience in an R&D environment, be able to demonstrate substantial experience in most of the following areas.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

• A bachelor's degree in engineering, or a related technical discipline from an accredited University.
• Excellent communication skills and effective collaborative work in a cross-functional team.
• A willingness to work at all levels, from drawing maintenance through to product leadership.
• High level proficiency in Solidworks and Microsoft Office suite.
• Ability to design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for complex electronics and consumer products using best practices and good problem-solving skills.
• Experience in taking products through regulatory standards with a strong focus on attention to detail – (Environmental, Reliability, Safety, and Security)
• Experience designing plastic housings for electronic assemblies
• Sound knowledge of product assembly methods, design for manufacture, and test processes.
• Strong knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes including injection moulding, die casting, sheet metal stamping, machining.
• Good workshop skills, ability to generate prototypes, mock ups, test jigs and development samples.
• Excellent time management skills and organization skills.
• Excellent and thorough documentation skills, maintaining and generation of specification documentation, mechanical drawings, installation documents, regulatory documentation and BOMs for products, parts and assemblies.
