Job summary

Windcave is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer to join our team in Auckland. You will contribute to robust embedded software using C and some C++, interfacing via UART, SPI and USB, with TCP/IP networking and RTOS-driven multithreading.

You will read schematics and datasheets, work within resource-limited MCUs, and collaborate across hardware, QA, and software to deliver reliable payment solutions. Hybrid work with clear development opportunities is offered.

Qualifications

• 2–3 years of embedded C programming experience; C++ is a plus.
• Experience with UART, SPI, USB and other low-level protocols.
• Strong TCP/IP and serial communication understanding.
• Knowledge of RTOS and multithreaded programming.
• Ability to read hardware schematics and datasheets; work in resource-limited MCUs.
• Nice to have: Embedded Linux/AOSP, Android dev (Kotlin), Python, Bluetooth.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain embedded software in C (and some C++).
• Work with low-level protocols and RTOS in a multi-threaded environment.
• Interpret hardware schematics and datasheets to implement features.
• Collaborate with hardware and QA to ensure robust integration.

About the role:

As a member of the Embedded Software Development team, you will need to demonstrate:

• Atleast 2 – 3 years of experience with embedded C programming, and experience with C++ is a plus
• Experience with low-level protocols (UART, SPI, USB, etc.)
• Good understanding of TCP/IP protocol and serial communication
• Good understanding of RTOS and multithreaded programming
• Ability to read hardware schematics and datasheets
• Competent to work in a resource limited microprocessor

Nice to have:

• Experience with Embedded Linux or AOSP Android development
• Experience or interest in Android development (Kotlin, MVVM/MVI)
• Python or other general scripting experience
• Good understanding of Bluetooth
• Familiarity with tools like Git, Jira, Jenkins, or similar.
