Job summary

Fletcher Building Limited in Tauranga is recruiting a Mechanical Apprentice to join the maintenance team. You will earn while you learn, gaining hands-on experience in a large manufacturing environment and progressing toward a qualified Maintenance Fitter.

Reporting to the Mechanical Maintenance Manager, you’ll support maintenance activities, learn fault-finding, and develop documentation skills while staying safety-focused and engaged in site learning.

Responsibilities

• Assist with preventative and breakdown maintenance on plant and equipment.
• Support planned maintenance shutdowns and schedules.
• Learn fault-finding and problem-solving techniques on site.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records using MEX work orders.
• Ensure workshop tools and equipment are properly stored and maintained.
• Contribute to a strong safety culture through safe practices.
• Complete apprenticeship training and study requirements on site.

The Role

Winstone Wallboards, home of GIB® plasterboard, is looking for a motivated Mechanical Apprentice to join our Tauranga Maintenance team. This is an outstanding opportunity to earn while you learn, gain hands‑on experience in a large manufacturing environment, and work towards becoming a qualified Maintenance Fitter. Reporting to the Mechanical Maintenance Manager, you'll support the maintenance team in keeping our plant running safely and efficiently. Your role will include:

• Assisting with preventative and breakdown maintenance on plant and equipment
• Supporting planned maintenance shutdowns
• Learning fault‑finding and problem‑solving techniques
• Maintaining accurate maintenance records through MEX work orders
• Ensuring workshop tools and equipment are maintained and stored correctly
• Working safely and actively contributing to our strong safety culture
• Completing all apprenticeship training and study requirements while applying your learning on site.
