Job summary

Tiaki Wai Limited is offering a Mechanical Apprenticeship in the Wellington region. You’ll join a structured programme to become a trade-qualified Industrial Fitter, maintaining critical three waters infrastructure across the region.

You’ll learn hands-on with trained tradespeople, take on increasing responsibility, and contribute to reliable water services. An apprenticeship pathway with on-the-job training is provided in a supportive environment.

Qualifications

  • To be successful in this role you will bring a genuine interest in mechanical trades and industrial maintenance.
  • A positive, can-do attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and mechanical aptitude.
  • A commitment to health and safety.
  • Reliability, teamwork and a strong work ethic.
  • Effective communication skills and a customer-focused approach.
  • A Full Class 1 driver's licence is a must; Class 2 preferred, or able to gain. Manual driving ability.
  • Confined space, working at heights, health and safety certs preferable.

Responsibilities

  • Completing a structured apprenticeship programme while gaining practical, on-the-job experience.
  • Assisting with the maintenance, inspection and repair of mechanical assets across water, wastewater and stormwater networks.
  • Learning to diagnose faults and complete repairs on utility equipment and systems.
  • Using mobile technology, equipment, and systems to record work activities.
  • Participating in the standby roster and supporting emergency response activities.
  • Working safely and contributing to a strong health, safety and environmental culture.
  • Building technical knowledge and progressing toward trade qualification milestones.

The opportunity

Are you mechanically minded, eager to learn, and looking for a career that combines hands-on work with nationally recognised qualifications?

We're looking for a Mechanical Apprentice to join our Utilities team. Through a structured apprenticeship programme and on-the-job training, you'll develop the skills and experience required to become a trade-qualified Industrial Fitter, helping maintain critical water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure across the Wellington region.

As a Mechanical Apprentice, you'll work alongside experienced tradespeople maintaining and repairing mechanical equipment at pump stations and utility assets across the Three Waters network. You'll progressively build your technical skills, take on increasing responsibility, and contribute to providing reliable water services to our communities.

About the role:
