Qualifications
- NZQF Level 4 trade qualification or equivalent.
- Minimum 3 years relevant experience with IC engines.
- Demonstrated experience with marine engines.
- Strong ability to diagnose engine faults and complete repairs.
- Experience with servicing, component replacement and reassembly.
- Understanding of marine electrical and charging systems.
- Experience with diagnostic equipment and software.
- Mercury/MerCruiser experience is advantageous.
- Knowledge of SmartCraft and DTS systems is advantageous.
- Manufacturer training or certification is an advantage.
- Ability to read technical manuals and specs.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and team collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, fuel and cooling faults across marine engines.
- Carry out servicing, preventive maintenance and repairs on outboard and marine engines.
- Inspect, dismantle, repair and reassemble engine components.
- Identify worn or defective components and perform replacements per specs.
- Perform engine tune-ups, testing and performance checks.
- Use diagnostic equipment and software to identify faults and resolve issues.
- Diagnose and repair marine starting, charging and electrical systems.
- Service and repair sterndrive and inboard systems when required.
- Install outboard engines, controls, gauges, wiring and related equipment.
- Install marine electronics, accessories and systems.
- Complete pre-delivery inspections and engine commissioning.
- Participate in sea trials and operational testing.
- Provide mobile servicing and repairs at customer locations.
- Maintain accurate technical records and service documentation.
- Follow WHS procedures and manufacturer guidelines.
- Maintain a high standard of workmanship across repairs and installations.
- Work independently while contributing to the wider technical team.
