Job description

Auckland | Full-time | 9-Day Fortnight

Ready to take your electrical skills somewhere different?

Manaaki Marine is recruiting a Senior Electrical Technician for an established Auckland-based marine electrical business working across high-end recreational and commercial vessels.

You don't need to come from the marine industry.

We are particularly interested in experienced Automotive Electricians, RV/Caravan Technicians, Industrial Electrical Technicians and Automation/Controls specialists whose skills could transfer into a technically diverse marine environment.

The Work

This is a hands-on role combining installation, commissioning, diagnostics, fault-finding and maintenance across a broad range of electrical and electronic systems.

Depending on your background, you'll work with systems including:

  • Batteries, alternators, charging and DC-DC systems

  • Solar, MPPT controllers and shore-power charging

  • Inverters, generators and AC/DC distribution

  • PLCs, relay logic and control systems

  • Navigation, communications and vessel electronics

  • Wi-Fi, Starlink, 4G/5G and onboard networks

  • Pumps, alarms, lighting and auxiliary systems

  • Premium diagnostic platforms including Victron, CZone, Mastervolt, Garmin, Raymarine and Simrad

The breadth of systems is significant, with technicians developing competency across new installations, diagnostics, maintenance and full commissioning on live jobs.

Who We're Looking For

We're looking for an experienced technician who can think for themselves, diagnose problems and take ownership of a job.

You may already be working in marine, or you could be coming from automotive electrical, RV/caravan fit-out, industrial electrical, automation or another technically aligned sector.

You'll ideally bring:

  • Strong electrical diagnostic and fault-finding skills

  • Experience with 12/24V DC systems and/or AC electrical systems

  • Confidence working independently

  • High standards of workmanship

  • Good communication and customer-facing skills

  • An interest in learning increasingly complex electrical and electronic systems

Why Make the Move?

This is an opportunity to take an existing electrical skillset and develop it much further.

You'll work across everything from charging and power management to automation, communications, navigation and integrated vessel systems, with a structured technical progression pathway and manufacturer training available.

You'll also benefit from:

  • 9-day fortnight

  • Overtime and call-out rates

  • Paid vendor and technical training

  • Company-supplied specialist diagnostic equipment

  • Company vehicle for work

  • Clear progression into Senior and Lead Technician positions

If you're an experienced electrical technician looking for more technical variety, greater challenge and a pathway into the marine sector, we'd like to hear from you.

Please note: Sponsorship is not available for this position. Applicants must already hold the legal right to live and work in New Zealand to be considered.
