Job summary

Volunteer Service Abroad (VSA) in Wellington, NZ, seeks a Manager International Development & Insights to lead our model for international volunteering for development. You will drive measurement, evaluation, learning, and thought leadership, monitoring results with robust quantitative and qualitative methods and ensuring timely reporting against organisation-wide measures.

You will guide development practices, build trusted relationships, and innovate in spaces like Social Return on Investment.

Qualifications

• Experienced in conducting qualitative and quantitative analysis, deriving insights and presenting findings to diverse audiences.
• Tertiary level qualification in Development Studies and understanding of international volunteering in development.
• Experience in developing work programmes.

Responsibilities

• Lead VSA’s model for international volunteering for development and drive innovation in development practice.
• Oversee measurement, evaluation, research, learning and thought leadership in this area.
• Monitor and communicate results using quantitative and qualitative methods with baseline data and indicators.
• Deliver robust, on-time reporting against organisation-wide measures.
• Lead development practices to support learning and delivery of outcomes.
• Innovate in new spaces, e.g., measuring social return on investment.

Te āhua o Te Tūrunga – The nature of the position

The Manager International Development & Insights reports to the Te Tumu Whakarae - Chief Executive Officer, is a member of the Wider Management Group at VSA and is responsible for managing one Senior Data Analyst.

The position leads our model for international volunteering for development, providing innovation around development models and advice on international development standards. It also drives our approach to measurement, evaluation, research, learning, and thought leadership on evolving practice in this area. This includes monitoring and communicating results from VSA’s work using quantitative and qualitative methods, appropriate baseline data and indicators.

The top 3 focus areas for the Manager International Development & Insights are:

Delivery of robust, high quality and on-time reporting against organisation wide measures for VSA.

Leadership on development practices for VSA in order to support others to learn in this space and deliver well.

Innovation into new spaces for VSA, for example measuring Social Return on Investment for our work.

Ngā tino Pūkenga/Wheako – Essential skills/experiences for the role

To be our ideal candidate you will be:

Experienced in conducting qualitative and quantitative analysis, deriving insights and findings, preparing reports, and presenting these to different audiences, including internal and external stakeholders.

Someone who has a Tertiary level qualification in Development Studies and understands how this looks in practice along with the place international volunteering has for development.

Experienced in the development of work programmes.

Experienced in managing budgets and resources and the ability to motivate people to deliver outcomes against targeted results.

Able to establish trusted and productive working relationships.

Committed to the principles of international development and have an understanding of the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, bi-culturalism, and multi-culturalism.
