Job summary

New Zealand Red Cross – Wellington Central, North Island seeks an Advisor Communications and Engagement to join Red Cross House in Wellington. You will coordinate communications for programmes, producing engaging content for web, social channels and media.

You’ll build relationships, craft stories, and drive communications plans across internal and external audiences while meeting deadlines in a supportive team.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in journalism, communications or another relevant field.
  • Three to five years’ experience in communications, media or journalism.
  • Strong writing and storytelling skills with experience across channels.
  • Experience with online and social media tools; photography/video skills a plus.
  • Proven experience working with diverse communities.
  • Experience or ability to develop and implement communications plans.
  • Understanding of marketing, publishing, design, printing and distribution processes.
  • Experience working with media and local media contacts.

Responsibilities

  • Provide communications advice including messages and plans for issues across the organisation.
  • Create engaging content for Red Cross channels (web, socials, intranet, media).
  • Find and develop stories from across NZ Red Cross for the right audiences.
  • Respond to requests and maintain strong stakeholder relationships.

We have an exciting opportunity for an Advisor Communications and Engagement to join the team at Red Cross House in Wellington.

In this role, you will coordinate communications for Red Cross programmes, with a broad generalist focus in internal and external communications. You will create engaging content for our social media and digital channels, help find and tell great Red Cross stories, be a strong writer, have excellent relationship management skills and the ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.

In this role you will:

  • Provide communications advice including key messages and communications plans for a range of issues across the organisation.
  • Produce engaging communications material for Red Cross channels (web, socials, intranet and media) including written, image and video content.
  • Find and develop great stories from across New Zealand Red Cross and help get them in front of the right audiences.
  • Respond to internal and external requests in a timely manner and prioritise strong internal and external relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Have some existing experience, and a willingness to use and learn, key digital communications tools and channels including e-newsletter platforms, content management systems and design and insights platforms.
  • Manage, develop and maintain communications strategies, materials, resources and plans.

To be successful you will have:

  • A tertiary qualification in journalism, communications or another relevant field is required.
  • Three to five years’ experience working in a communications, media or journalism role.
  • Strong writing and storytelling skills, and experience writing and creating content for varying channels; media, web, social media and technical copy editing and proofreading.
  • Experience using a wide range of online and social media tools, ideally with some photography and/or video skills.
  • Proven experience working with people from a range of backgrounds, including people in vulnerable situations.
  • Experience or ability to develop and implement communications strategies and plans.
  • Understanding of marketing, publishing, design, printing and distribution processes.
  • Experience working with media, with strong knowledge of the local media landscape and existing media contacts.
