About the role
This is a key role responsible for overseeing the day-to-day accounting operations of the business across both New Zealand and Australia.
You’ll manage the full accounting function, including month-end processes, tax compliance across GST, PAYE and FBT, payroll administration, and financial reporting. You’ll also work closely with the external accounting practice, providing the information and reporting required to support monthly financial commentary and management discussions.
Leading the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable team members, you’ll play an important role in ensuring the finance function runs smoothly, accurately and efficiently.
Key responsibilities
Oversee day-to-day Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions and support team development
Lead month-end close, journals, reconciliations, fixed assets and stock accounting
Prepare NZ and Australian GST, PAYE/PAYG, FBT and provisional tax calculations
Support NZ payroll and liaise with external providers on Australian payroll
Manage banking, cashflow and weekly wage reconciliations
Prepare monthly management reporting, including revenue, debtors, creditors and performance analysis
Lead budgeting, forecasting and financial performance reporting
Oversee Australian bookkeeping, reconciliations and reporting
Maintain current knowledge of tax, accounting and relevant systems
About you
We’re looking for an experienced, hands‑on accountant who enjoys being involved in the detail while also looking for ways to improve how things are done.
You’ll bring:
4–5+ years' experience in an accounting or finance role
Demonstrated hands‑on experience across month‑end close and journal entries, tax return preparation, payroll administration, and financial reporting
A recognised accounting qualification. CA or CPA is ideal but not essential
Experience with NetSuite or a similar ERP system is preferred
Proficient in Excel and comfortable learning ERP/accounting software
Experience working across multiple currencies and entities (e.g. NZ and Australia) an advantage
A willingness to embrace change and genuine enthusiasm for using AI tools and improving systems and processes
A logical, analytical approach and the ability to work through issues and find practical solutions
Excellent listening and questioning skills, with the confidence to communicate effectively with colleagues and management
Strong self‑management, initiative and the ability to work independently
