The opportunity

We are recruiting for a growing, close-knit business seeking a hands-on Finance & Operations Accountant to join its Wellington-based team.

This is a broad and varied position that combines transactional accounting with day-to-day operational support. It would suit someone who enjoys working across different areas of a business and is comfortable in a smaller team where everyone contributes beyond their core responsibilities.

The structure of the role is flexible and could suit either a full-time candidate or an experienced professional looking for a senior part-time opportunity.

Key responsibilities

• Managing accounts payable and receivable
• Processing supplier invoices, customer payments and statements
• Credit control and debtor follow-up
• Completing bank, credit card and third-party platform reconciliations
• Preparing GST and Australian BAS returns
• Supporting the month-end process, including journals, accruals and fixed assets
• Completing foreign exchange and intercompany reconciliations
• Processing orders and coordinating with third-party logistics providers
• Maintaining accurate customer and CRM information
• Supporting year-end workpapers and liaising with external accountants
• Assisting with customer and retailer enquiries when required
• Documenting processes and contributing to ongoing automation and process improvement

As transactional processes become increasingly streamlined, there will be scope for the role to develop into more value-added analysis, commentary and continuous improvement work.

About you

You will be diligent, accurate and comfortable managing a varied workload. You will enjoy working collaboratively and be confident moving between finance, systems and operational tasks.

Ideally, you will bring:

• Experience in a broad accounting or finance operations role
• Strong reconciliation and transactional accounting skills
• Good systems knowledge and confidence learning new technology
• Experience with an ERP such as NetSuite or a similar system
• Exposure to multi-entity or multi-currency environments
• An interest in automation, AI tools or finance process improvement
• Experience within retail, ecommerce, distribution or a similar environment would be advantageous

You do not need to be a fully qualified accountant. Candidates who are working towards a CA or CPA qualification, or who offer strong practical experience, are encouraged to apply.
