Job summary

Rainforest Retreat, located in Franz Josef Glacier on New Zealand's West Coast, is seeking a practical Maintenance Team member to care for our accommodation, facilities and guest rooms.

You will perform general repairs, carpentry, painting, tiling and basic plumbing to keep the property safe, guest-ready and well-maintained, working independently or as part of a collaborative team while prioritizing safety and quality workmanship.

Qualifications

• Must be practical, reliable and hands-on.
• Confident using a range of hand and power tools.
• Experience in carpentry, painting, tiling and roofing.
• Able to carry out general building repairs and maintenance.
• Safety-conscious and committed to quality workmanship.
• Well organized with good time management.
• Friendly and respectful with guests and colleagues.

Responsibilities

• General repairs and maintenance throughout the property.
• Maintenance and repairs of guest rooms, staff accommodation and facilities.
• Carpentry and basic building work.
• Painting, plastering and touch-ups.
• Tiling and repairs to tiled areas.
• Roofing maintenance and minor repairs.
• Repairing, replacing and upgrading fixtures, fittings and furniture.
• Identifying maintenance issues and completing repairs in a timely manner.
• Assisting with room upgrades, refurbishments and improvement projects.
• Basic plumbing and general property maintenance.

As part of our Maintenance Team, you will carry out a variety of general maintenance and property improvement tasks to keep our accommodation, facilities and property in excellent working condition, while also helping us repair, upgrade and improve our guest rooms and facilities. The role involves ensuring that our rooms and facilities are guest-ready, functional, safe and presented to a high standard.

Key responsibilities

• General repairs and maintenance throughout the property
• Maintenance and repairs of guest rooms, staff accommodation and facilities
• Carpentry and basic building work
• Painting, plastering and touch-ups
• Tiling and repairs to tiled areas
