Job summary

Selwyn Village in Auckland is seeking an experienced and practical Maintenance Operative to join our Facilities team. This permanent, full-time role involves hands-on repairs, preventative maintenance, and supporting a safe living environment for residents.

You will work Monday to Friday 8:30am–5:00pm with an on-call roster one week in four. The ideal candidate has hands-on maintenance experience, a full NZ driver licence, and a practical, solutions-focused approach.

Qualifications

• Previous hands-on maintenance or handyperson experience.
• General building maintenance knowledge.
• Understanding of health and safety practices.
• Current Full NZ Driver Licence.
• First Aid certificate is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide a handyperson maintenance service across allocated village areas

This is a permanent, full-time position working Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5.00pm (40 hours per week), with participation in a one-week-in-four on-call roster (Monday to Sunday).

Reporting to the Facilities & Maintenance Manager, you'll help ensure Selwyn Village's buildings, grounds, assets, furnishings, and equipment are maintained to a high standard, supporting an exceptional living environment for residents.

About you

You're a practical, solutions-focused maintenance professional who enjoys variety and takes pride in a job well done. You'll also bring a genuine appreciation for working within a resident-focused environment.

You'll have:

• Previous experience in a similar maintenance or handyperson role
• Sound knowledge of general building maintenance
• A strong understanding of health and safety practices
• A current Full NZ Driver Licence
• A current First Aid Certificate (preferred)
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong problem-solving skills with a practical, solutions-focused approach
• Good physical fitness and the ability to undertake lifting and manual tasks
• A positive, organised, and proactive approach to your work
• The ability to build positive relationships with older people
• Permanent eligibility to work in New Zealand
