Job summary

The Selwyn Foundation's Selwyn Village in Auckland is seeking an experienced Maintenance Operative to join our close-knit Facilities team. You will perform hands-on repairs and upkeep, ensuring buildings, grounds, furnishings and equipment are maintained to a high standard for residents.

This permanent, full-time role runs Monday to Friday, 8:30am–5:00pm (40 hours), with a one-week-in-four on-call roster. You will bring hands-on experience, a safety-first approach, and a commitment to supporting

Qualifications

• Experience in a similar maintenance or handyperson role.
• Sound knowledge of general building maintenance.
• Strong understanding of health and safety practices.
• Current Full NZ Driver Licence; First Aid certificate preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide a handyperson maintenance service across allocated village areas.
• Carry out preventative and reactive maintenance tasks.
• Assist with the movement of furniture and specialist equipment.
• Maintain and enhance indoor and outdoor furnishings and village assets.
• Coordinate and support property-related projects.
• Contribute to a safe and welcoming environment for residents, staff, and visitors.

Reporting to the Facilities & Maintenance Manager, you'll help ensure Selwyn Village's buildings, grounds, assets, furnishings, and equipment are maintained to a high standard, supporting an exceptional living environment for residents.

Key responsibilities

• Provide a handyperson maintenance service across allocated village areas
• Carry out preventative and reactive maintenance tasks
• Assist with the movement of furniture and specialist equipment
• Maintain and enhance indoor and outdoor furnishings and village assets
• Coordinate and support property-related projects
• Contribute to a safe and welcoming environment for residents, staff, and visitors

About you

You're a practical, solutions-focused maintenance professional who enjoys variety and takes pride in a job well done. You'll also bring a genuine appreciation for working within a resident-focused environment.

You'll have:

• Previous experience in a similar maintenance or handyperson role
• Sound knowledge of general building maintenance
• A strong understanding of health and safety practices
• A current Full NZ Driver Licence
• A current First Aid Certificate (preferred)
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong problem-solving skills with a practical, solutions-focused approach
• Good physical fitness and the ability to undertake lifting and manual tasks
• A positive, organised, and proactive approach to your work
• The ability to build positive relationships with older people
• Permanent eligibility to work in New Zealand
