Job summary

Heritage Lifecare is seeking a Maintenance Manager for Edith Cavell Lifecare & Village in Sumner, Christchurch. This permanent full-time role (32 hours or more per week) focuses on leading maintenance and grounds care in a 60-bed care home and hospital setting.

You will supervise a team, perform preventative maintenance, building repairs and gardening tasks while ensuring safety and high-quality living environments for residents. A hands-on leader with strong organisational skills is essential.

Qualifications

• Experience in general maintenance including painting, plumbing and minor carpentry.
• Proven leadership experience overseeing teams.
• Excellent communication, empathy and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee general upkeep of the care home and grounds.
• Perform preventative maintenance, building repairs and minor renovations.
• Manage gardening tasks: mowing, edging and weed control; maintain exterior areas.

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Maintenance Manager with a passion for working in a general maintenance environment to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our residents. We’re seeking someone with a positive, can-do attitude who understands the importance of a clean and tidy environment, is great with people, and takes pride in their work. You’ll be both hands-on and a strong team leader, with practical building and maintenance skills, as well as the organisational and leadership abilities to manage workloads, prioritise tasks, and motivate your team.

As Maintenance Manager, you will be responsible for the general upkeep of the care home, including preventative maintenance, building repairs, gardening, mowing grassed areas, edging, weed control, and maintaining the building’s exterior and grounds. You will also work closely with the Care Home Manager to ensure the highest level of safety for our residents.

Your Skills And Experience

• Leadership experience
• Experience with general maintenance, painting, plumbing, and minor carpentry is preferred but not essential.
• Ability to work as part of a team and also independently.
• Ability to build good rapport with others and show empathy.
• Good communication, interpersonal, and time management skills.
• A genuine love for helping people, with excellent customer service skills, and a friendly and positive attitude.
• Experience delivering to a quality standard.
• A full clean driver’s license.
