Job summary

Opal Kiwi Packaging in Christchurch, South Island, is seeking a Maintenance Fitter for a full-time role on Monday to Friday, 5:00pm – 1:00am. You will maintain and repair a range of manufacturing equipment to keep our plant running reliably and safely.

Reporting to the Maintenance Team Leader, you will troubleshoot faults, dismantle and reassemble pumps and conveyors, assist with upgrades, and collaborate with electricians and operators.

Qualifications

• A Level 4 Trade Certificate in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Previous experience as a Maintenance Fitter in manufacturing or industrial settings is preferred.
• Strong attention to detail with a focus on safety and quality.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance and mechanical repairs on a wide range of manufacturing equipment.
• Troubleshoot mechanical faults and breakdowns in a timely and efficient manner.
• Dismantle, repair, and reassemble pumps, gearboxes, conveyors, pneumatic systems and other plant machinery.
• Carry out fabrication and welding tasks (basic MIG/TIG preferred).
• Provide mechanical support for corrugating and converting machines.
• Work alongside electricians, fitters and operating staff to diagnose issues and implement solutions.
• Install new equipment and assist with machine upgrades or factory modifications.
• Complete assigned work orders, including planned and preventative maintenance.
