Job summary

Groundline Engineering Ltd. is seeking hands-on Maintenance Engineer to keep a busy sawmill and processing operation running at full capacity in Rolleston, Canterbury. Two positions available: one on a Monday–Friday day shift and one on the existing night shift crew.

The site features automated plant and robotics alongside traditional sawmill equipment. You will check, maintain, and repair machinery across the sawmill and processing shed, following a preventative maintenance programme and taking

• A recognised trade qualification (fitter/turner, mechanical, or plant maintenance).
• Hands-on plant or machinery maintenance experience in an industrial setting.
• Practical fabrication skills for repairs and project work.
• A strong safety mindset, including lock-out/tag-out discipline.
• Willingness and ability to work night shift.

Maintenance Engineer, Day Shift or Night Shift

Rolleston, Canterbury | Full-time | Day and Night Shift positions available | Hourly rate

A well-established, family-owned timber processing and manufacturing business in Rolleston is looking for hands-on Maintenance Engineers to keep a busy sawmill and processing operation running at full capacity. Two positions are available, one on a Monday to Friday day shift and one on the existing night shift crew, so let us know which pattern suits you best. The site is one of the most automated of its kind in the South Island, with industrial robotics running on the manufacturing lines alongside traditional sawmill plant.

The Role

You’ll check, maintain, and repair machinery across the sawmill and processing shed, including plant supporting the site's robotic manufacturing lines, working to a structured preventative maintenance programme and picking up fabrication work on special projects as needed. Day shift runs Monday to Friday, 6am to 3pm. Night shift joins an established overnight maintenance crew, with the opportunity to grow into a leading-hand role guiding that crew over time.
