Job summary

Aliaxis in Avondale, New Zealand, is seeking a Maintenance Fitter to join our small but supportive maintenance team. The role runs 8.30am–5.30pm, Monday to Friday, at the Dynex manufacturing operation.

You will apply hands-on mechanical skills in a fast-paced environment, collaborate with electrical staff, and contribute to continuous improvement through reliable maintenance practices.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification (Level 4) in Fitting and Turning or dual trade.
• 3–5 years' industrial maintenance fitter experience in manufacturing or plastics.
• Knowledge of extrusion, water process plant and pumps is desirable.
• Willingness to be on call for breakdowns.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Responsibilities

• General mechanical maintenance and preventative maintenance.
• Hydraulic and pneumatic maintenance and repairs.
• Attend to breakdown call outs when required.
• Record job data daily in CMMS (MEX preferred).
• Coordinate with electrical support to implement solutions.
• Capital project works and continuous improvement tasks.
• Follow OH&S procedures.
• Spare parts ordering through store requisitions.

About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Maintenance Fitter, to join our supportive small maintenance team working 8.30am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday, at our Avondale, Dynex manufacturing operation.

Ideally you will come from a similar role and enjoy working in a fast paced and innovative manufacturing environment where you are able to work autonomously or part of a team with a continuous improvement mindset, to get the job done safely, efficiently and to optimise performance and reliability of both the plant and equipment on site.

To be successful you will have a keen eye for detail, technical and mechanical aptitude and experience in a process driven environment will be highly regarded. This is a dynamic role that requires a hands-on and energetic person with a high level of organisation and the ability to work quickly and accurately while maintaining safe work practices and following procedures.

What will you do?

• General mechanical maintenance & repairs including preventative maintenance


• Hydraulic & pneumatic maintenance & repairs


• Welding experience (MIG, TIG, stick) and machining are desirable but not essential


• Attend to call outs for breakdowns when required


• Spare parts ordering through store requisitions


• Work with Electrical support to diagnose and implement solutions


• Capital project works and continuous improvement tasks


• At least 3-5 years' work experience in industrial manufacturing


• Job recording in CMMS systems daily, using MEX


• Strictly following all required OH&S procedures

About you

• Be a trade qualified (level 4) Fitting and Turning or dual trade qualified (highly regarded)


• 3-5 years' experience as an industrial Maintenance Fitter working in a similar role within a Manufacturing, Plastic, FMCG or Heavy Industrial environment)


• Knowledge or experience in extrusion, water process plant, raw materials handling, granulation, pumps, and associated equipment (highly desirable)


• Be hands on and flexible to be on call when needed to attend breakdowns.


• Are a team player with excellent communication skills both verbal and written


• Demonstrated experience in mechanical maintenance activities including annual shutdowns, breakdowns and preventative maintenance.


• Computer literate with experience using CMMS systems (MEX preferred)


• Exceptional time management and coordination skills, able to prioritise and be agile with a high level of attention to detail.


• Have a current driver's licence, own transport


• EWP, White Card and Forklift licence (advantageous).


• Be a New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident with full working rights.
