Job summary

Heritage Lifecare in Nelson (Tasman) is seeking a Part-Time Grounds Maintenance / Maintenance Coordinator to help keep our care home safe, clean and welcoming. The role covers general maintenance tasks, preventative work, and coordination of duties to support resident well-being.

The successful candidate will work around a 20-hour week, primarily Monday to Friday, with emphasis on teamwork, reliability and excellent service. A tidy, hands-on approach and a valid driver’s license are desirable.

Qualifications

• Experience in general maintenance, painting, plumbing, minor carpentry is preferred but not essential.
• Ability to work both in a team and independently.
• Strong interpersonal skills and empathy in resident-focused environments.
• Good communication, time management and customer-service orientation.

Responsibilities

• Maintain the care home building, including preventative maintenance and repairs.
• Oversee exterior and grounds upkeep.
• Prioritise and manage workloads, coordinating with the Care Home Manager for safety and resident well-being.

About Our Role

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Maintenance Coordinator with a passion for working in a general maintenance environment to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our residents. We’re seeking someone with a positive, can-do attitude who understands the importance of a clean and tidy environment, is great with people, and takes pride in their work. You’ll be both hands‑on, with practical building and maintenance skills, as well as the organisational abilities to manage workloads, prioritise tasks. As Maintenance Coordinator, you will be responsible for the general upkeep of the care home, including preventative maintenance, building repairs, and maintaining the building’s exterior and grounds. You will also work closely with the Care Home Manager to ensure the highest level of safety for our residents.

Your Skills And Experience

• Experience with general maintenance, painting, plumbing, minor carpentry, is preferred but not essential.
• Ability to work as part of a team and also independently.
• Ability to build good rapport with others and show empathy.
• Good communication, interpersonal, and time management skills.
• A genuine love for helping people, with excellent customer service skills, and a friendly and positive attitude.
• Experience delivering to a quality standard.
• A full clean driver’s license.
