Job summary

New World Pioneer in Palmerston North is seeking an experienced Service Deli & Seafood Manager to lead our busy fresh food department and deliver outstanding customer experiences.

You’ll manage day-to-day operations, drive stock planning and displays, and coach a high-performing team while upholding food safety standards. This hands-on leadership role offers growth opportunities within a locally owned supermarket.

Qualifications

• The successful applicant will have leadership experience in a supermarket fresh food department, hospitality, or food retail environment.
• A passion for fresh food and delivering outstanding customer service.
• Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop a high-performing team.
• Strong organisational, planning, and time-management skills.
• Experience with ordering, stock control, merchandising, and rostering.
• The ability to analyse sales, manage costs, and identify opportunities for growth.
• A good understanding of food safety and health & safety requirements.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Confidence using computer systems and learning new technology.
• A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and the ability to lead by example.
• Experience in a Service Deli or Seafood department would be highly advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Lead day-to-day operation of the Service Deli & Seafood department, ensuring it is well stocked and visually appealing.
• Deliver high-quality products and exceptional customer service.
• Coach and develop a dedicated team, manage ordering and inventory, and create eye-catching displays.
• Maintain food safety and health & safety standards across the department.
• Analyse sales and costs to identify opportunities for growth and continually improve performance.
• Collaborate with suppliers and the leadership team to drive department success.
• Work hands-on with customers while guiding the team and planning ahead.
