Job summary

Natural Habitats is seeking an experienced Landscaping Team Leader for Whangārei, North Island. You will mentor a 2–4 person crew while hands-on on site, reading plans and delivering hard and soft landscaping, paving, irrigation, and timber works for commercial and residential yards.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years' experience in Landscaping or construction.
  • Experience as Team Leader or similar position.
  • Full Class 1 driver's license.
  • Physically fit with good communication.

Natural Habitats – Whangarei, North Island

We are seeking an experienced Landscaping Team Leader, with building, paving and concreting experience. You will be hands‑on working on the tools whilst leading and mentoring a team of 2 ‑ 4 landscapers to create beautiful commercial and residential yards in the Whangarei area.

As a Team Leader your main responsibility is to ensure that your team has all the necessary resources to complete their tasks safely, efficiently, on time. This includes sharing your expertise, giving regular feedback to your team members, project manager and clients. You’ll also get involved in doing everything from site set‑out to planting, timber work, paving, lawn care and much more as this is a team‑based role.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:
  • Landscape Construction – reading construction plans, you install hard scapes and/or soft scapes to our clients’ specification. Depending on the project and your skills, that can include planting, mulching, timber works, concreting, paving (all varieties using both mortar and sand‑based materials) and installing irrigation.
  • Quality - your work is of the highest standard, you are thorough and take pride in a job well done. What you don’t know yet, you’ll learn from your Project Manager, Site Supervisor or Site Manager.
  • Health & Safety - you make sure you and your workmates go home unharmed every day.
  • Teamwork - you’ll be an active team member, encouraging your team to complete assigned work to a high standard, while having all the support from Project Managers in maintaining great relationships with clients.
  • The Landscape Construction responsibilities are dependent on the project work that we have available, which means no two days are the same!

About You:

You’ll have a passion for landscaping, have a strong work ethic and enjoy being on the tools and in the garden. You're a team player, physically fit, willing to learn and ideally already have extensive experience in paving using both mortar and sand base materials, accurately working to drawing/building levels and working in unison with our site teams to achieve deadlines.

You will also have considerable experience in gardening and handling tools (ideally including heavy machinery) and get immense satisfaction from completing a project and pleasing clients. You will enjoy sharing your knowledge with others and is adept at communicating and collaborating with your team, clients, and contractors.

Requirements:
  • 5+ years' experience in Landscaping, Construction or similar setting out sites.
  • Experience in a Team Leader or similar position
  • A good level of fitness and communication skills – you’ll be actively moving and lifting all day.
  • Willingness to learn and grow.
  • A commitment to health and safety practices that creates a safe working environment for the team and others on site.
  • Full class 1 driver's license
Advantageous but not essential:
  • Carpentry and concreting experience
  • First Aid & Site Safe certifications
  • Ability to drive a Manual vehicle and operate digging machinery
  • Class 2 driver’s license
  • WTR certification
