Job summary

Blokhaus is seeking reliable Construction Labourers to join our Canterbury team. You will gain hands-on experience across commercial, residential, and civil sites, assisting tradespeople and helping to keep projects moving safely and efficiently.

We offer weekly pay, an immediate start, and exposure to a variety of construction tasks while developing practical trade skills in a supportive team environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of experience on construction or civil sites.
• Must hold a valid Class 1 Driver’s License.
• Must have your own standard PPE (steel cap boots, hi-vis vest, hard hat, safety glasses, gloves).
• Steel fixing experience (tying steel, rebar placement) is a huge advantage.
• Physically fit and able to lift heavy loads.
• Reliable, punctual and able to work in a team.

Responsibilities

• Assist tradespeople on-site with daily construction tasks and site prep.
• Operate basic power tools, hand tools, and site equipment safely.
• Assist with steel fixing and rebar/tie work where needed.
• Set up and tidy the site, maintain safe work environment.

This role offers hands‑on experience across a variety of active commercial, residential, and civil construction sites. Working alongside skilled tradespeople, you will play a crucial role in maintaining site workflow, assisting with daily construction tasks, and keeping projects moving safely and efficiently.

Working alongside skilled tradespeople, you will play a crucial role in maintaining site workflow, assisting with daily construction tasks, and keeping projects moving safely and efficiently.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Assisting various tradespeople on‑site with daily construction and preparation tasks
• Operating basic power tools, hand tools, and site equipment safely
• Assisting with basic steel fixing, tying rebar, and placing mesh (experience is a strong plus!)
• Site setup, cleanup, and ensuring a safe, tidy work environment at all times
• Moving, loading, and unloading construction materials around site
• Digging trenches, site excavation support, and preparing surfaces for concrete or build phases
• Following all health and safety guidelines to ensure a secure working environment

What We’re Looking For

• Minimum 1 year of experience working on construction or civil sites
• Must hold a valid Class 1 Driver’s License (mandatory) and reliable transport
• Must have your own standard PPE (Steel cap boots, Hi‑Vis vest/shirt, hard hat, safety glasses, gloves)
• Steel fixing experience (tying steel, rebar placement) is a huge advantage!
• Physically fit and capable of handling heavy lifting and manual labor
• High level of reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic
• Ability to follow instructions clearly and work well within a team environment
• Site Safe card or ConstructSafe qualification is preferred (or willing to obtain)
