Job summary

Toast & Oak Ltd in Queenstown is seeking a reliable Kitchen Porter to join our fast‑paced kitchen team on a full‑time, permanent basis. This role supports chefs and front‑of‑house staff and is essential to maintaining a clean, organised kitchen environment.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Wash dishes, pots, pans and kitchen equipment using commercial dishwashing equipment.
  • Maintain cleanliness of all kitchen areas during service.
  • Clean floors, walls, benches and storage areas.

Toast & Oak is an award‑winning restaurant and wine bar in the heart of Queenstown. We pride ourselves on delivering exceptional dining experiences through high‑quality food, outstanding service, and a collaborative team culture.

We are seeking a reliable and hardworking Kitchen Porter to join our kitchen team on a full‑time, permanent basis. This is a fast‑paced role that is essential to the smooth operation of our kitchen.

About the Role

As a Kitchen Porter, you will support our chefs and front‑of‑house team by maintaining a clean, organised, and efficient kitchen environment. This position requires someone who enjoys physical work, has excellent attention to detail, and takes pride in keeping high standards of cleanliness and hygiene.

Key Responsibilities
  • Washing dishes, pots, pans, cutlery and kitchen equipment using commercial dishwashing equipment

  • Maintaining cleanliness of all kitchen areas throughout service

  • Cleaning floors, walls, benches, shelving, cool rooms and storage areas

  • Assisting with waste management and recycling

  • Receiving, checking and storing deliveries

  • Assisting with basic food preparation as directed by chefs

  • Restocking kitchen supplies during service

  • Following food safety, hygiene and health & safety procedures

  • Supporting the kitchen team with general cleaning and operational tasks

  • Assisting with opening and closing kitchen duties

  • Ensuring all cleaning schedules are completed to a high standard

What We’re Looking For

The successful applicant will:

  • Be physically fit and capable of working on their feet for long periods

  • Be reliable, punctual and have a strong work ethic

  • Work well under pressure in a busy commercial kitchen

  • Have excellent organisational skills and attention to detail

  • Be able to work independently as well as part of a team

  • Have a positive attitude and willingness to learn

  • Be available to work evenings, weekends and public holidays

  • Have good communication skills in English

Experience
  • Applicants must have at least 6 months experience in a commercial kitchen, stewarding, cleaning, or hospitality environment.

  • Experience using commercial dishwashing equipment is preferred.

  • Basic food preparation experience is an advantage.
