Job summary

Brand Developers is seeking an Intermediate Software Developer to help shape our product direction with a strong AI focus. You will contribute across the product lifecycle, collaborating with leadership and cross-functional teams to deliver practical software.

You’ll design, prototype and deploy AI-enabled features, integrate APIs and cloud services, and help evolve our technical architecture with a pragmatic, iterative approach.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of professional software development experience

Intermediate Software Developer – AI & Product Development

We’re an entrepreneurial New Zealand company entering an exciting new phase. Building on our existing experience and customer relationships, we’re pivoting towards designing, developing and selling our own software products.

AI will be central to that journey—not as a buzzword, but as a practical tool for creating useful products, accelerating development and solving genuine customer problems.

We’re looking for an Intermediate Software Developer who wants to help shape what we build and how we build it. This is an opportunity to join early, influence product direction and grow alongside the business.

The role

You’ll work across the product development lifecycle, turning ideas and customer needs into reliable, commercially viable software. You’ll collaborate closely with company leadership and other technical and commercial contributors.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Designing, building, testing and maintaining web-based software products
• Developing AI-enabled features using large language models and related technologies
• Integrating third‑party APIs, cloud services and business systems
• Creating prototypes and validating product ideas quickly
• Contributing to technical architecture and technology choices
• Improving development practices, automation, testing and deployment
• Translating customer feedback into practical product improvements
• Considering usability, security, performance and commercial value in your work
• Keeping up with developments in AI and identifying where they can deliver real value

What we’re looking for

You’re a capable developer who can work independently while knowing when to ask questions or involve others. You enjoy learning, experimenting and turning ambiguous ideas into working solutions.

Ideally, you’ll bring:

• Around 3–5 years of professional software development experience
• Strong Understanding of SOLID principles
• Strong skills in at least one modern programming language or application stack
• Experience building web applications, APIs and database‑backed systems
• A sound understanding of software design, testing, version control and deployment
• Practical experience using AI‑assisted development for reliable rapid development
• Experience integrating generative AI or large language model APIs into applications
• An understanding of concepts such as prompting, structured outputs, retrieval‑augmented generation, embeddings, tool use and model evaluation
• The ability to assess AI output for quality, reliability, privacy, security and cost
• Clear communication and a collaborative, pragmatic approach
• The right to work in New Zealand

Experience with cloud platforms, CI/CD, containers, TypeScript, Python or modern frontend frameworks would be valuable, but we’re more interested in your overall capability and potential than a perfect technology match.
