Job summary

Align in Wellington (Te Whanganui-a-Tora) is seeking an Intermediate Planner to join our multidisciplinary team delivering infrastructure and environmental planning across New Zealand. You will contribute to resource consent processes, planning advice, and stakeholder engagement within a collaborative consultancy environment.

You should have a NZPI-accredited planning degree with about 4 years of industry experience, strong written and oral communication, and a license to drive in NZ.

Qualifications

  • NZPI-accredited planning degree or equivalent.
  • 4 years of planning experience.
  • Experience with resource consent applications and assessments.
  • Knowledge of NZ planning legislation and statutory processes.
  • Strong written communication and technical report writing skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Sound organisational and time management abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Current full New Zealand driver''s license.

  • Supporting plan change, policy and strategic planning projects.

Aligns collaborative team combines expertise across environmental and urban planning, spatial planning, parks and open space planning, property acquisition, legalisation and disposal, geospatial services, project management and strategic asset management to help deliver successful project outcomes for our clients and communities.

What you'll do

As an Intermediate Planner, you will work alongside experienced planning professionals on a diverse range of infrastructure, development and environmental projects throughout New Zealand. You will provide planning advice, prepare statutory planning documentation, engage with stakeholders and contribute to delivering high-quality outcomes for our diverse range of public, private and commercial clients across Aotearoa.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Preparing and assisting with resource consent applications, notices of requirement and assessments of environmental effects.

Skills, experience and qualities

We're looking for an emerging planning professional who is motivated, solutions-focused and keen to continue developing their career within a supportive consultancy environment. We are looking for those who have the following skills and experience:

  • A NZPI-accredited planning degree or a relevant tertiary qualification in planning, resource management, environmental science, geography or similar.
  • 4 years of relevant industry planning experience.
  • Experience preparing or contributing to resource consent applications and assessments.
  • Knowledge of New Zealand planning legislation and statutory planning processes.
  • Strong written communication and technical report writing skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Sound organisational and time management abilities.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • A current full New Zealand driver's licence.
