Job summary

Kāinga Ora - Homes and Communities in Mangere is seeking a Housing Support Manager to build enduring relationships with customers and their whānau, ensuring housing and wellbeing needs are met. You will support low/medium needs customers, handle challenging conversations, and travel across the region to tailored services.

Experience with the Residential Tenancy Act is valued. You will work with tenants on rent arrears, learn new tools, and contribute to a supportive, inclusive housing system

Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience applying the Residential Tenancy Act.
  • Natural relationship-builder, relating to customers from all backgrounds and walks of life.
  • Skilled at de-escalating highly emotional situations and conversations, with the ability to problem solve and understand the reasons behind customer issues.
  • Ability to think critically, adapt quickly and manage competing priorities in a fast-changing environment.
  • Comfortable and skilled to work on rent arrears and debt recovery.
  • Technically savvy and able to quickly learn new tools and systems.
  • Experience in tenancy, emergency or social housing space is an advantage.
  • We need people who care and are passionate about supporting customers with challenging housing and wellbeing needs.
  • Cultural awareness will foster an aligned approach to Māori and Pasifika.

Job description

Te whiwhinga mahi - Our opportunity

As a Housing Support Manager based in Mangere, you will work directly with a portfolio of our customers and their whānau, building enriching and enduring relationships to ensure customers' housing and wellbeing needs are being met and continue to be met as they change over time.

You will be supporting some of our low and medium needs customers and manage some disruptive behaviour situations as well. You will be skilled in holding difficult and courageous conversations with our customers and stakeholders when the situation demands.

You will visit our customers at their Kāinga Ora homes and, from time to time, attend meetings with key stakeholders to ensure tailored support and services stay in place for our customers and their whānau. This means that you will travel long distances in and around the region.

You will also be required to work with our tenants on rent arrears and debt collection/recovery.
