Job summary

Kāinga Ora is seeking a Housing Support Manager in Mangere, Auckland. You will work with a portfolio of customers and their whānau to ensure housing and wellbeing needs are met, now and as they change over time.

You will support customers with low to medium needs, handle difficult conversations, and travel across the region to deliver tailored services and engage with stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge and experience applying tenancy laws (Residential Tenancy Act)
  • Ability to de-escalate emotional situations and communicate clearly
  • Strong relationship-building with diverse customers and whānau
  • Ability to think critically, adapt quickly and manage competing priorities

Responsibilities

  • Support customers to achieve housing and wellbeing outcomes in their whānau
  • Build and maintain enriching relationships with customers and stakeholders
  • Visit Kāinga Ora homes and attend meetings to ensure ongoing tailored support
  • Manage rent arrears and debt recovery activities
  • Travel within the region to meet customers and attend engagements

As a Housing Support Manager based in Mangere, you will work directly with a portfolio of our customers and their whānau, building enriching and enduring relationships to ensure customers' housing and wellbeing needs are being met and continue to be met as they change over time.

You will be supporting some of our low and medium needs customers and manage some disruptive behaviour situations as well. You will be skilled in holding difficult and courageous conversations with our customers and stakeholders when the situation demands.

You will visit our customers at their Kāinga Ora homes and, from time to time, attend meetings with key stakeholders to ensure tailored support and services stay in place for our customers and their whānau. This means that you will travel long distances in and around the region.

You will also be required to work with our tenants on rent arrears and debt collection/recovery.

Here’s what you will bring to the role:

  • You'll have knowledge and experience in the application of the Residential Tenancy Act
  • You'll be a natural relationship-builder, relating to customers from all backgrounds and all walks of life
  • You'll be skilled at de-escalating highly emotional situations and conversations, with the ability to problem solve and understand the reasons behind customer issues
  • You will have the ability to think critically, adapt quickly and manage competing priorities in a fast-changing environement
  • You'll be comfortable and skilled to work on rent arrears and debt recovery
  • You’ll be technically savvy and able to quickly learn new tools and systems
  • Experience in the tenancy, emergency or social housing space will be an advantage
  • We need people who care as much as we do and are passionate about supporting customers who may have challenging housing and wellbeing needs
  • Your cultural awareness will foster an aligned approach to our customers' aspirations and preferences, particularly in working with Māori and Pasifika
  • You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills
