Job summary

Hydrangea Cottages in Punakaiki is seeking a practical, experienced single person or couple to join from November 2026 for the busy summer season. The role combines housekeeping, property maintenance, and light gardening in a beautiful coastal setting.

Hours are casual/on-call with weekly pay. Accommodation details are provided as part of the live-on-site option, with space on a terrace overlooking the sea. Previous hands-on work and a pride in high presentation are essential.

Qualifications

• Has proven practical experience in housekeeping, hospitality, property maintenance, or similar hands-on work.
• Is confident using basic tools and carrying out minor repairs and general maintenance.
• Takes pride in doing a thorough job and maintaining high presentation standards.
• Is physically fit, reliable, and self-motivated.
• Can work independently, manage their time well, and use initiative.

Responsibilities

• Housekeeping with exceptional attention to detail.
• Property and grounds maintenance, including light painting, basic repairs, and general upkeep.
• Light gardening and maintaining the outdoor areas.

We're looking for a practical, experienced, and motivated single person or couple to join us at Hydrangea Cottages in Punakaiki from November 2026 for the busy summer season.
This position is best suited to people who genuinely enjoy hands-on work and take pride in maintaining high standards. Previous practical experience is essential.

About Hydrangea Cottages

Hydrangea Cottages is a boutique collection of self-contained cottages nestled between the famous Pancake Rocks and Paparoa National Park. Guests visit from around the world to experience the wild beaches, native bush, birdlife, and warm West Coast hospitality.
We are known for presenting our property to a consistently high standard and are looking for someone who shares that commitment.

The Role

This is a varied, hands-on role that includes:

• Housekeeping with exceptional attention to detail
• Property and grounds maintenance, including light painting, basic repairs, and general upkeep
• Light gardening and maintaining the outdoor areas
• Assisting wherever needed to keep the property running smoothly

Hours vary depending on if a couple or single working - casual on call basis.
Weekly pay is provided.

Living Options

Live on site:

• Suitable for a single person.
• We have a private warm bedroom/living space and separate private kitchen and bathroom area situated on our terrace looking out to sea.
• A weekly site fee applies.
• There may also be the opportunity for accommodation from winter onwards.
