Job summary

Cardrona Ski Resort Ltd is seeking a passionate Hostel Assistant Manager for Brownston Hostel in Wanaka. This live-in role supports the Hostel Manager, leads the accommodation team, and ensures round-the-clock care for guests and staff with a values-driven culture.

You will manage bookings, guest queries, and third-party listings, lead staff, and drive financial tasks like banking and payroll deductions for staff accommodation.

Qualifications

• Proven leadership in housekeeping and maintenance scheduling.
• Familiarity with booking platforms and stock control.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Highly organised, adaptable, and solution-focused.
• A team player who leads by example and thrives under pressure.
• First aid/fire warden training preferred.

Responsibilities

• Oversee cleaning schedules, stock control, and building maintenance.
• Participate in Manager on Call rota, including overnight on site up to five nights.
• Lead and mentor hostel staff, conduct performance reviews.
• Support payroll deductions for staff accommodation and banking/reconciliation.

Job description

We're on the lookout for a passionate and proactiveHostel Assistant Managerto support the day-to-day operations of our Brownston Hostel in Wanaka. This is a unique opportunity to lead a dedicated team, deliver exceptional guest experiences, and help foster a positive and values-driven hostel culture.

As the Hostel Assistant Manager you'll play a key role in supporting the Hostel Manager to lead the accommodation team and ensure round-the-clock care for both guests and staff. You'll foster a respectful and inclusive hostel environment through strong pastoral care, while managing bookings, guest queries, and third-party listings. Your responsibilities will include overseeing cleaning schedules, stock control, and building maintenance, as well as participating in the Manager on Call rota to respond to urgent issues, up to five night per including overnight on site . You'll also lead and mentor hostel staff, conduct performance reviews, and champion our values across the team. Additionally, you'll assist with financial tasks such as banking, reconciliation, and coordinating payroll deductions for staff accommodation.
