This isn't just an electrical role. You'll be working across the full generator system, including diesel motors, generating alternators, electrical systems and controllers.
You’ll be involved in servicing, maintenance, fault finding, repairs, installations and commissioning across a range of modern generators.
There's also a high volume of motor servicing and repair work, so strong mechanical knowledge and practical, hands‑on ability are just as important as the electrical side.
Clients include major electricity networks, farms, ports and councils, so there's plenty of variety in the work. Most of the time you'll be based at the yard in north‑west Christchurch, with the wider coverage stretching from Ashburton to the top of the South.
There is some travel involved, generally only a couple of nights at a time every few months.
You’ll have support from the Technical Manager based in Dunedin, along with full support from your Christchurch team. There’s also ongoing training as you build your generator knowledge. For the right person, there’s also a genuine pathway into a Lead Technician role as you develop and take on more responsibility.
Applicants may be required to undertake pre‑employment alcohol and drug testing.
Applicants for this position should have NZ residency or full NZ working rights with no restrictions - sponsorship is not available.
