Job summary

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora in Hawera Hospital is seeking a general practitioner to deliver primary healthcare across all life stages. You will work with nurse practitioners, nurses, and community partners to provide accessible, high-quality care in a rural setting.

You will perform comprehensive assessments, diagnose and manage conditions, promote prevention, and contribute to service development with a focus on whānau-centred, culturally safe care.

Qualifications

• Vocational registration as a General Practitioner (GP).
• Current practising certificate is required.
• Experience in rural settings or general practice with acute, complex and chronic conditions is preferred.
• Ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive primary healthcare across all life stages.
• Assess, diagnose, treat, and manage patients and families.
• Deliver preventative care, health promotion and chronic disease management.
• Collaborate with nurse practitioners, nurses, allied health and community partners.
• Maintain accurate medical records and meet regulatory requirements.

About the Role

As a general practitioner, you will provide primary healthcare services, supporting patients across all stages of life. You will work alongside nurse practitioners, nurses, allied health and community partners to deliver accessible high-quality healthcare. Provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, treatment and ongoing management of patients. Deliver preventative healthcare, health promotion and chronic disease management. Develop and maintain trusted relationships with patients and whānau. Collaborate effectively with other health professionals and community services. Maintain accurate clinical records and meet professional and regulatory requirements. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to service development. Support equitable health outcomes with a focus on culturally safe and whānau centred care.

The South Taranaki Rural Health General Practice, located at Hāwera Hospital, is a modern service run by a team of senior skilled clinicians such as general practitioners, nurse practitioners, practice nurses, and rural/urgent care doctors. About You

To be successful, you will have: Vocational registration as a general practitioner. Current practising certificate. Previous experience in a rural setting/general practice working in an acute, complex and chronic condition management model. The ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team.
