Ehara taku I toa takitahi | My strength is not the strength of one, it is the strength of many

Are you passionate about providing quality healthcare services in rural communities? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you!

We are seeking to appoint a General Practitioners (GP) to join the South Westland Area Practice. In this unique general practice of approximately 1,600 enrolled patients, you will work across five clinics between Hari Hari and Haast alongside a Nurse Practitioner and a team of highly skilled Rural Nurse Specialists. The natural beauty and tourism highlights of the region also bring significant numbers of tourists which increases the variety and clinical interest of the role. As part of the Te Tai o Poutini Rural Generalist Team you will have excellent collegial and professional support working across a broad clinical scope.

The West Coast of the South Island is a rugged, isolated and beautiful part of Aotearoa New Zealand. From Karamea in the north, to Haast in the south, the coast is the largest geographical Te Whata Ora locality, but with a small population of 32,500. Providing health care in this environment is without doubt challenging, and the team here have fully adopted a Rural Generalist Model to ensure an equitable, high level of care is delivered to our community. The Rural Generalist team is flexible, multi-disciplinary and highly skilled - joining us will provide you with a raft of experience within the framework of our community and rural hospital-based services. Outside of work, the West Coast will also challenge and amaze you - bring your tramping boots, surfboard, mountain bike and kayak - you will need them all!

The Rural Generalist (RG) Team is a highly motivated and supportive group of SMOs, largely formed of DRHMNZ and RNZCGP fellows and trainees; FACEMs and FACRRMs. The flexible and multi-disciplinary nature of the Generalist model means we can offer unique career development opportunities tailored to individual clinicians.

If you enjoy living within small rural communities or are wanting a change in lifestyle, then the West Coast, and South Westland in particular, could be for you. For more information on the West Coast and why it is such a great part of the country, you can view more information here
