Job summary

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora Hawera District is seeking a general practitioner to provide primary healthcare across all ages in a rural setting. You will work with nurse practitioners, nurses, allied health and community partners to deliver accessible, high‑quality care.

Responsibilities include comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management; preventative care, health promotion and chronic disease management; maintaining accurate records and meeting regulatory

Qualifications

• Vocational registration as a general practitioner.
• Experience in rural/general practice with acute, complex and chronic condition management.
• Ability to work collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team.

About the Role

As a general practitioner, you will provide primary healthcare services, supporting patients across all stages of life. You will work alongside nurse practitioners, nurse, allied health and community partners to deliver accessible high-quality healthcare.

Provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, treatment and ongoing management of patients

Deliver preventative healthcare, health promotion and chronic disease management

Develop and maintain trusted relationships with patients and whānau

Collaborate effectively with other health professionals and community services

Maintain accurate clinical records and meet professional and regulatory requirements

Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to service development

Support equitable health outcomes with a focus on culturally safe and whānau centred care

The South Taranaki Rural Health General Practice,locatedat Hāwera Hospital, is a modern service run by a team of senior skilled clinicians such as general practitioners, nurse practitioners, practice nurses, and rural/urgent care doctors.
