Job summary

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is seeking a General Practitioner for the South Taranaki Rural Health General Practice located at Hawera Hospital. The role is 0.6 FTE on a fixed-term contract for 12 months, focused on delivering primary care in a rural setting.

You will work with nurse practitioners, nurses, and allied health to provide accessible, high-quality healthcare, with emphasis on equity and whānau-centred care.

Qualifications

• Vocational registration as a GP is required.
• Current practising certificate is required.
• Experience working in rural/general practice settings preferred.
• Ability to collaborate with nurses, allied health and community partners.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, treatment and ongoing management of patients.
• Deliver preventative healthcare and chronic disease management.
• Develop and maintain trusted relationships with patients and whānau.
• Collaborate with other health professionals and community services.
• Maintain accurate clinical records and meet regulatory requirements.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and service development.
• Support equitable health outcomes with culturally safe, whānau‑centred care.

About the Role

As a general practitioner, you will provide primary healthcare services, supporting patients across all stages of life. You will work alongside nurse practitioners, nurse, allied health and community partners to deliver accessible high-quality healthcare.

• Collaborate effectively with other health professionals and community services

To be successful, you will have:

• Vocational registration as a general practitioner
• Current practising certificate
• Previous experience in a rural setting/general practice working in an acute, complex and chronic condition management model
