At Pathways we're passionate about supporting people with experience of mental illness or addictions - we've been dedicated to it for more than 30 years. We provide community-based mental health, addiction and wellbeing services throughout Aotearoa, supporting around 6,600 adults with Pathways and 2,500 young people through Real (our youth brand) in communities all through Aotearoa each year, to live well in the communities of their choice.

Our ahakoa te aha - whatever it takes spirit drives personalised, compassionate, and culturally responsive support. We advocate for equitable access and outcomes for every person who uses our services.

The Role | Mō tēnei tūranga mahi
As General Manager, you'll be based in Wellington, Nelson or Christchurch and report to the Chief Executive.

You'll provide inspiring, values‑based leadership across the region, contribute to national strategy as part of the Pathways Executive team, and build strong relationships with key sector partners to improve mental health, addiction and wellbeing services.

You will lead a team of regional Service and Relationship managers reporting to you. They in turn will lead teams of team coaches, who manage a range of adult and youth wellbeing services in the region.

To build and maintain these relationships with your team and key stakeholders, you'll need to be able to travel regularly within your region, as well as nationally to connect with the Pathways Executive team.

This is a full-time position working Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5.00pm. However, as a senior manager, you'll need to be prepared to support your team and be responsive outside business hours.

What You'll Bring
We're looking for an experienced and respected leader with strong people leadership skills and deep knowledge of the New Zealand health and social sectors. You'll bring strategic thinking, contract management expertise and the ability to build strong, collaborative relationships across teams and stakeholders.

You'll demonstrate a genuine commitment to te ao Māori, Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tikanga Māori, with a proven track record of initiatives that strengthen Māori capability and capacity. You'll strongly align with our values of aroha, connection, authenticity, courage and hope, and be committed to developing both yourself and others.

You'll ideally have a clinical background with current registration and experience in mental health and addiction services, along with a tertiary qualification in management and/or health, a full driver's licence, and a commitment to community development. We value diversity and lived experience.

  • Income protection insurance
  • Subsidies for school holiday childcare
  • A great team around you every day
