Job summary

Downer Wellington is hiring a Gardener to maintain parks, reserves, and public spaces with hands-on gardening duties across client sites.

You will plant, prune, mulch, edge, trim hedges, and perform general upkeep while prioritising safety and teamwork. A valid driver's licence and horticulture qualifications are valued, with opportunities for growth and training offered.

Qualifications

• Full driver's licence (Class 2 an advantage).
• NZ Certificate in Horticulture level 3/4 highly regarded.
• Experience in gardening, landscaping, or grounds maintenance.
• Ability to operate gardening equipment safely.
• Strong teamwork and customer service mindset.
• Good communication and ability to interact with the public.
• Willingness to learn and follow safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Planting, pruning, weed control, edging, mulching, hedge trimming, garden maintenance across client sites.
• Carry out a variety of gardening and landscaping duties with focus on safety and teamwork.
• Maintain high standards of outdoor spaces and assist customers as needed.

In this hands-on role, you'll carry out a variety of gardening and landscaping duties including planting, pruning, weed control, edging, mulching, hedge trimming, garden maintenance, and general upkeep across designated client sites. You will need to be physically fit, happy to work outdoors, and passionate about gardening and outdoor maintenance, along with the following:

• Full driver's licence (Class 2 an advantage) with experience in gardening, landscaping, or grounds maintenance desirable.
• New Zealand Certificate in Horticulture level 3/4 highly regarded
• Confidence using gardening equipment such as hedge trimmers, weed eaters, knapsack sprayers, and other handheld tools.
• Positive, professional, and reliable attitude with strong teamwork skills.
• Ability to work independently, show initiative, and take pride in maintaining outdoor spaces.
• Good communication skills and confidence interacting with the public.
• Willingness to learn, follow safety procedures, and use basic electronic devices for work tasks.
