Job summary

Downer is seeking a Gardener to maintain parks, reserves and public spaces across designated client sites in the Waikato region. This hands-on role involves planting, pruning, weed control, edging, mulching, hedge trimming and general upkeep with a strong emphasis on safety and teamwork.

You will need a full driver’s licence, experience in gardening or grounds maintenance, and the ability to work outdoors physically.

Qualifications

• Full driver's licence (Class 2 an advantage) with gardening, landscaping, or grounds maintenance desirable.
• Confidence using gardening equipment such as hedge trimmers, weed eaters, knapsack sprayers, and other handheld tools.
• Positive, professional, and reliable attitude with strong teamwork skills.
• Ability to work independently, show initiative, and take pride in maintaining outdoor spaces.
• Good communication skills and confidence interacting with the public.
• Willingness to learn, follow safety procedures, and use basic electronic devices for work tasks.

Responsibilities

• Planting, pruning, weed control, edging, mulching, hedge trimming and garden maintenance.
• General upkeep across designated client sites.
• Maintain safety, teamwork, and customer service on site.
