Job summary

Odyssey seeks two fulltime Peer Support Specialists to join a new community café-based service in central Hamilton, operating 40 hours weekly Tue–Sat from 7:30am to 4pm. You will welcome visitors, provide support, and refer to services as needed, while also serving customers during café shifts under the Café Manager.

Ideal candidates have lived experience of mental health or addictions, at least 1 year of relevant work, specialist peer training, and knowledge of Māori tikanga and Pacific

Qualifications

• Personal lived experience and ability to be a positive role model
• 1+ years’ relevant work experience, including prior experience in a peer role
• Completed specialist or intentional peer support training
• Experience in social services, addictions and/or mental health sectors
• Interest in and/or knowledge of Māori tikanga and Pacific cultures
• Hospitality/barista experience would be useful

Responsibilities

• Help create a friendly, safe space in a community café setting
• Drop in with clients for connection and support or referral to ongoing care
• Work rostered café shifts serving customers under supervision of Café Manager
