Job summary

Odyssey is seeking a passionate Kaiārahi Māori to join our new peer-led service at Odyssey’s Community Café in Central Hamilton. This permanent, full-time role runs Tuesday to Saturday, 7:30am–4pm, delivering culturally safe support for tāngata whai ora and their whānau.

You will work with the Peer Manager and Mental Health team to embed Te Tiriti o Waitangi and Tikanga Māori, coordinate culturally grounded activities, and support staff in developing respectful cultural practice while serving

Qualifications

Strong relational and communication skills.
3+ years’ experience in a cultural lead role supporting tāngata whai ora/whānau.
Confidence with te reo and tikanga Māori; knowledge of mihi, kapa haka, marae kawa and protocols.
Experience facilitating cultural activities or wananga for individuals or groups.
Good understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application in peer/mental health settings.
Active connection with Waikato/Tainui hapū/iwi; involvement in marae or Kaupapa.
Hospitality or barista experience would be useful.

Responsibilities

Create a friendly, culturally safe space in Odyssey’s Community Café.
Coordinate or facilitate te ao Māori activities responsive to tāngata whai ora and whānau.
Support staff to integrate Te Tiriti and Tikanga Māori in service delivery.
Build relationships with mana whenua, iwi and other stakeholders to raise the service profile.
Provide café services to customers as rostered under guidance of Café Manager.
