Job summary

Tradestaff Dunedin is seeking a motivated Fitter Turner to join a busy engineering workshop in Dunedin. You will work on mechanical fitting, machining and heavy engineering projects, including maintenance on industrial equipment.

NZ- or overseas-qualified tradesperson with practical experience is encouraged to apply. Immediate start and weekly pay offered. A clean NZ Driver Licence is preferred.

Fitter Turner

Tradestaff Dunedin is looking for a motivated and skilled Fitter Turner to join a busy engineering workshop in Dunedin.

This is a great opportunity to work on a variety of mechanical fitting, machining and heavy engineering projects, including maintenance and repairs on industrial and mining equipment.

Whether you're NZ trade-qualified, overseas-qualified, an experienced tradesperson without formal qualifications, or a Polytech-trained candidate with practical experience, we'd love to hear from you. We're looking for someone who takes pride in their workmanship, enjoys hands-on engineering and is keen to keep developing their skills.

Location: Dunedin Central, Dunedin

Start date: Immediate start for the right candidate

Pay rate: $34–$38 per hour, depending on experience (paid weekly)

What You'll Be Doing

• Operating workshop machinery, including lathes, milling machines and grinders
• Assembling, fitting and repairing mechanical components and machinery, including light fabrication and basic welding
• Performing maintenance and repairs on heavy engineering and mining equipment
• Carrying out hydraulic system maintenance, fitting and repairs
• Reading and interpreting technical drawings, plans and engineering specifications
• Conducting quality checks using precision measuring tools to ensure accurate workmanship
• Working alongside engineers and workshop teams to complete projects efficiently while maintaining high health and safety standards

What We're Looking For

• NZ-qualified or overseas-qualified Fitter Turner, experienced engineering tradesperson, or Polytech-trained candidate with relevant practical experience
• Experience operating lathes, milling machines, grinders and other engineering workshop equipment
• Sound mechanical fitting skills, with an understanding of machinery maintenance and repairs
• Hydraulic experience and basic welding or light fabrication skills would be advantageous
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and work accurately with precision measuring equipment
• Full, clean NZ Driver Licence and reliable transport, with the ability to drive company vans or utes for occasional pickups and deliveries
• A reliable, safety-conscious attitude, strong attention to detail and a willingness to learn and develop new skills
