Job summary

Tradestaff in Wellington is seeking skilled Fitter-Welders for heavy fabrication projects across the region. You will work on large-scale fabrication, welding and installation across industrial sites, with potential shift work as discussed with shortlisted candidates.

Ideal applicants have a minimum of 3 years’ experience or NZQF Level 4 qualification, strong MIG/stick welding abilities, and the capacity to read engineering drawings. Own tools and reliable transport are required.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years' experience or NZQF Level 4 qualification.
• Strong MIG and stick welding skills; TIG is a bonus.
• Ability to read and work from engineering drawings.
• Own tools and reliable transport; pass pre-employment drug test.
• Two recent work references.

Responsibilities

Fitter-Welder – Heavy Fabrication Specialists Wanted

Wellington Based Opportunities | $30-$38 per hour

Wellington will be the predominate area of work for this role - however you may also be required to work in Auckland, Hawkes Bay, Bay of Plenty and Waikato regions. This will be discussed further with the successful applicant.

We’re looking for experienced Fitter-Welders with strong fabrication skills to join our growing team in the Waikato. With multiple roles available, this is a fantastic chance to secure stable work with excellent pay, great conditions, and ongoing project variety.

What you’ll be doing:

You’ll be working on large-scale fabrication and installation projects across a range of industrial environments. Every day brings something new – from fabricating custom components to assembling and welding structural steel and machinery.

Key responsibilities include:

• Heavy fabrication and structural welding to spec
• Reading and interpreting detailed fabrication drawings
• MIG and stick welding (TIG experience a bonus)
• Using cutting, grinding, and forming tools
• Fitting, tacking, and assembling large steel components
• Site installation work as required
• Maintaining high standards of health and safety

What we’re looking for:

• A minimum of 3 years' relevant experience, or
• A relevant NZQF Level 4 qualification (or an overseas qualification recognised by NZQA as comparable)
• Strong MIG and stick welding skills (TIG is a plus)
• Ability to read and work from engineering drawings
• Reliable, hard-working, and safety-conscious
