Job summary

Armstrong's in Auckland is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to lead finance across our Greenlane and Newmarket dealerships, partnering with principals and Head Office to turn numbers into insight and drive growth.

You will manage a team, oversee monthly accounts, budgeting, cash flow, and audits, and help shape financial strategy as we expand to new sites and brands.

Qualifications

• CA qualification with 4+ years post-CA experience
• Big 4 or professional services background desirable
• Knowledge of automotive industry advantageous
• Strong leadership and stakeholder management
• Excellent written and verbal communication
• Advanced Excel and financial systems experience

Responsibilities

• Monthly management accounts, financial position, cash flow reporting with commentary
• Support dealership management with financial insights and improvement opportunities
• Prepare annual budgets and forecasts (CAPEX incl.)
• Cash flow management and forecasting
• Balance sheet reconciliations and maintain financial hygiene
• Manage stock, debtors and monthly reporting to Head Office
• Lead internal and external audits and liaison with auditors
• Act as Auckland finance lead for dealerships and head office liaison
• Develop and mentor finance team
• Drive process improvements, controls, and procurement reviews

We're growing fast, and we're looking for an experienced Financial Controller to help us keep pace. You'll take ownership of finance across our dealerships in Greenlane and Newmarket, and as we continue to add new sites and brands, this role will grow with the business.

You’ll be the Auckland-based finance lead for your dealerships, working closely with dealership principals and Head Office to turn the numbers into insight and drive better results. You'll lead a team of finance and administration staff, and you'll want to make a difference and strive to make improvements every day. Being passionate about cars is a plus but not mandatory.

You will be responsible for:

• Monthly management accounts, including financial performance, financial position and cash flow reporting, plus commentary for the regional manager's report
• Supporting dealership management with all financial aspects, helping them interpret results and identify areas for improvement
• Preparing annual business plans, budgets (including capital expenditure) and forecast updates
• Cash flow management and forecasting
• Balance sheet reconciliations and maintaining high financial hygiene standards
• Reviewing monthly stock levels and managing debtors
• Daily and weekly performance reporting, and monthly reporting to Head Office
• Statutory compliance, including GST, FBT and RWT returns, plus input into income tax calculations
• Internal audits and external audit preparation for each dealership
• Acting as the Auckland-based point of contact for local financial matters
• Leading and developing your finance team
• Driving process, policy and internal control improvements, supplier and procurement reviews, and finance projects

The successful candidate will have:

• 4+ years post CA qualification
• Big 4 accounting or professional services experience is highly desirable
• Knowledge of the automotive industry and distributor/manufacturer (advantageous) with a strong commercial mind
• Strong people leadership and relationship management skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Advanced Excel skills and experience with financial accounting and reporting systems
• A self-motivated, dynamic work ethic and a commitment to innovation and best practice
• A real team player who collaborates well with a range of stakeholders
