Job summary

Manukau Urban Māori Authority (MUMA) seeks an experienced Finance Manager to lead financial stewardship across the organisation. You will plan, manage and report on the budget, provide proactive financial advice to managers and senior leadership, and ensure resources are used effectively to support whānau and communities.

You will drive monthly/annual reporting, oversee policy development, and mentor the finance team while maintaining strong governance and stakeholder relationships.

Qualifications

  • Proven strategic and operational financial leadership at senior level.
  • Experience in annual/long-term planning, reporting and management.

Responsibilities

  • Lead monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting to Executive Leadership and Board.
  • Coordinate organisation-wide budgeting, forecasting and financial planning.
  • Maintain current, fit-for-purpose financial policies and chart of accounts (Xero).
  • Oversee month-end/year-end activities and Board pack preparation.
  • Manage debtors, creditors, cashflow and payroll support.
  • Monitor contracts with managers and report on revenue, expenditure and financial performance.
  • Oversee treasury, audit and internal controls to meet operating requirements.
  • Lead rollout of new financial systems and mentor the Accounting team.

About the role

The Finance Manager plays a key role in supporting MUMA to deliver strong financial stewardship across the organisation. You will actively lead, facilitate and coordinate organisation-wide financial planning, management and reporting, while providing proactive, well-founded advice and support to managers, the Finance team and senior leadership.

The role supports effective planning, sound decision‑making and the responsible management of MUMA’s financial resources, helping ensure we can continue to deliver quality services and positive outcomes for our whānau and communities.

Key responsibilities
  • Lead the delivery of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting to meet Executive Leadership and Board requirements.
  • Lead organisation-wide monthly, quarterly and annual financial planning, budgeting and forecasting.
  • Ensure MUMA’s financial policies, procedures and processes are current, effective and fit for purpose, including the Chart of Accounts and Xero.
  • Lead and deliver accounting and finance activities relating to month‑end, year‑end and Board pack preparation.
  • Provide effective debtors, creditors and cashflow management, and support banking functions including payroll support.
  • Work closely with managers to provide oversight of contracts and ensure regular reporting of contract revenue, expenditure and financial performance.
  • Oversee treasury functions, financial year‑end audit, internal audit and cashflow management to ensure MUMA can meet its ongoing operating requirements.
  • Act as the Finance lead for the rollout and implementation of new organisational systems.
  • Support, review and mentor the Financial/Management Accountant, encouraging professional development, performance and continued growth.
About you

You will be an experienced financial leader who can work both strategically and operationally, while building strong relationships across MUMA and with our external partners.

You will bring:

  • Proven strategic and operational financial leadership experience at a senior management level.
  • Proven organisation‑wide financial management skills and experience.
  • Proven experience in annual and strategic business planning, financial reporting and management.
  • Proven ability to lead the ongoing development and continuous improvement of financial policies, systems and processes.
  • Proven experience working with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, senior management, Boards and external advisors.
  • A strong commitment to continuous improvement, health and safety, and the wellbeing of our people.
  • Demonstrated people leadership experience, with the ability to develop, grow, support and empower individuals and teams.
  • A strong customer and service focus, with a genuine willingness to help others and an ability to deliver an exceptional experience.
  • Essential: Accounting or financial qualifications.
  • Essential: Chartered Accountant (CA) qualification or equivalent professional qualification.
