Job summary

The Fono is seeking a Family Harm Worker to join our Social Services team in Auckland. You will provide crisis intervention and practical support to Pacific families experiencing family harm, helping them access the right services and safety-focused options.

You will build strong relationships with families and partner agencies, document cases accurately and follow The Fono's care model while working in a culturally responsive, supportive environment.

The Fono is looking for a Family Harm Worker to join our Social Services team and provide culturally responsive support to Pacific families experiencing family harm across Auckland.

This is an opportunity to do meaningful work alongside families, communities and specialist services — helping people through difficult circumstances and connecting them with the right support to move forward.

About the role

Reporting to the Family Violence Services Team Leader, you will provide crisis intervention and practical support to Pacific families experiencing family harm.

You will work alongside families to understand their needs, provide appropriate support and safety-focused interventions, and connect them with other services for ongoing assistance.

You will also build strong working relationships with agencies and community organisations involved in family violence services, helping ensure Pacific families receive coordinated and culturally appropriate support.

Your day-to-day work will include:

• Providing support and crisis intervention to families experiencing family harm


• Working alongside families to identify their needs, strengths and support options


• Coordinating with relevant family violence, health, social service and community agencies


• Supporting families to transition to appropriate ongoing services


• Building trusted relationships with clients, families and community partners


• Maintaining accurate case notes, reports and documentation


• Working in accordance with The Fono's policies, safety protocols and model of care


• Contributing to a safe, supportive and culturally responsive environment for families and staff

About you

We are looking for someone who is community-minded, compassionate and culturally connected, with the ability to build genuine relationships with Pacific families.

You will ideally bring:

• Experience working in social services, community services, family violence or a related field


• A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent relevant experience


• An understanding and appreciation of Pacific cultures, values, protocols and ways of working


• The ability to build rapport and establish trust with a wide range of people


• Strong communication and interpersonal skills


• Good written skills and the ability to complete accurate reports and case documentation


• Sound judgement and the ability to respond calmly to challenging situations


• The ability to work collaboratively with other agencies and professionals


• Good computer literacy and confidence using client management systems


• A commitment to working safely, ethically and professionally

The ability to speak a Pacific language is highly desirable for this role.
