The role / Te mahi

Due to the launch of a new facility, this is a rare opportunity to join the University of Otago’s Christchurch campus as a Facilities Coordinator where you will be part of a team responsible for ensuring a safe, vibrant, and high-performing built environment is maintained to the highest standards.

Reporting to the Facility Manager, you will coordinate a building portfolio including very modern, highly serviced and complex laboratory and research facilities.

As a Facilities Coordinator, you will be an important member of the wider Property and Campus Development team and:

  • Provide a key Property Operations point of contact for University staff and students.
  • Proactively partner with your portfolio to fully understand their current and future requirements regarding the built environment and user needs.
  • Anticipate and respond to the needs of a diverse range of facilities and operations.
  • Ensure that daily work requests are promptly triaged, scoped and completed within service framework timeframes.
  • Coordinate the planned and corrective maintenance of University buildings at their optimum levels and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure that all works carried out meet the University’s quality and design standards.

In addition to the Christchurch based Facilities Manager, you will be supported by an array of property professionals in our Dunedin Campus, such as engineers, asset, project, property, and compliance managers as well as our dedicated Trade Services Team.

The successful applicant will ideally have:

  • Relevant Vocational, Facilities Management, Building Services Qualification, or experience (direct or transferable) in Property Operations, Project, Construction or Facilities Management with a strong client focus.
  • Experience operating and maintaining commercial, teaching or research buildings.
  • A sound understanding of the Building Act and the Health and Safety Act.
  • A clear and proven understanding of as-builts, floor plans and operating and maintenance manuals.
  • Proficient in the use of facility or asset management software and the Microsoft office suite of applications.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills.

While experience in trades disciplines, scientific, research, or medical facilities is highly beneficial to the role, dedication, curiosity, and attention to detail are highly valued for this role.

The Property & Campus Development Division is responsible for the University’s $2 billion built environment, supporting over 4,000 staff and 20,000 students across multiple campuses.
