Job summary

Stihl Shop Wanaka in Wanaka, Otago, is seeking an Equipment Sales & Service Specialist to join our team on a full-time basis. Based in Wanaka, you’ll combine sales expertise with hands-on technical knowledge to help customers choose the right outdoor power equipment and provide outstanding after-sales support.

You will deliver product demonstrations, handle sales transactions, assist stock and workshop activities, and maintain accurate service records.

Qualifications

• Experience in retail sales or customer service, preferably in outdoor power equipment.
• Technical knowledge of outdoor power equipment or related mechanical systems, or willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

About the role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Equipment Sales & Service Specialist to join our team at Stihl Shop Wanaka on a full-time basis. Based in Wanaka, Otago, this is a hands‑on role that combines sales expertise with technical knowledge. You will be the face of our business, engaging with customers both in-store and through service interactions, helping them select the right equipment for their job whilst ensuring they receive outstanding support before, during and after their purchase.

Key responsibilities

• Provide high levels of product knowledge and recommendations to customers, helping them choose appropriate equipment for their specific needs
• Deliver sales transactions accurately and professionally
• Conduct equipment demonstrations and provide guidance on product features, benefits and proper usage
• Maintain accurate records of servicing & repairs from the front counter
• Build and maintain positive customer relationships, responding to enquiries and addressing customer concerns promptly and professionally
• Assist with stock management, including receiving, organising and displaying stock
• Support the Workshop team
• Must be confident using computer systems

What we're looking for

• Previous experience in retail sales or customer service, preferably in the outdoor power equipment, garden tools or similar mechanical equipment sector
• Technical knowledge of outdoor power equipment, small engines or related mechanical systems, or a willingness to develop this expertise
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to customers of varying knowledge levels
• Enthusiasm for outdoor equipment and genuine passion for helping customers
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced retail environment
• Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail in both sales and service work
• Physical capability to handle equipment, perform manual tasks and work on service projects
• Reliable, punctual and committed to maintaining professional standards
• A valid driver's licence is advantageous
• Formal qualifications or certifications in small engine mechanics, servicing or sales are desirable but not essential if you demonstrate strong aptitude and willingness to learn
