Job summary

Archway Recruitment represents a respected engineering consultancy seeking an Engineering Geologist to join the Christchurch team. Early-career candidates (1–3 years) will gain hands-on field experience across diverse projects in Canterbury while developing geotechnical expertise.

You will perform site investigations, testing, observations, and reporting, with mentoring and opportunities for progress into foundation and piling work as you grow professionally.

Qualifications

• Degree qualified in Engineering Geology, Geology, or a related discipline.
• 1-3 years' relevant industry experience.
• Strong communication and organisational skills; enjoys practical fieldwork.

Responsibilities

• Geotechnical site investigations across residential and commercial projects in Canterbury.
• Hand auger and Scala testing, Clegg Hammer testing, and construction observations.
• Coordinate fieldwork with clients and subcontractors.
• Prepare geotechnical and construction observation reports.
• Assist with project delivery, proposals, and quotations.
• Support more advanced geotechnical assessments as experience grows.

The Opportunity

Our client is a respected engineering consultancy seeking an Engineering Geologist to join their Christchurch team.

This opportunity is ideal for someone with 1-3 years' experience looking to develop a career in geotechnical engineering and engineering geology while gaining hands-on field experience across a diverse range of projects.

The Role

You'll be involved in residential and commercial projects throughout Canterbury, including:

• Geotechnical site investigations
• Hand auger and Scala testing
• Clegg Hammer testing
• Construction observations and monitoring
• Coordinating fieldwork with clients and subcontractors
• Preparing geotechnical and construction observation reports
• Assisting with project delivery, proposals, and quotations

As your experience develops, you'll gain exposure to more advanced geotechnical assessments, foundation recommendations, piling, ground improvement, and retaining structures.

About You

• Degree qualified in Engineering Geology, Geology, or a related discipline
• 1-3 years' relevant industry experience
• Strong communication and organisational skills
• Enjoys practical, hands-on fieldwork
• Eager to learn and develop within a collaborative team environment
