Job summary

HEB Construction is seeking an Engineering Coordinator in Tauranga, NZ, to strengthen the front end of our projects and later transition to a site-based Project Engineer role as construction starts. You will work with pre-construction, estimating, commercial, and delivery teams to support early planning and ensure smooth handover to delivery.

This role focuses on front-end engineering, constructability reviews, and early cost planning, with a clear path toward site involvement once construction

Qualifications

• Degree in civil engineering is required or equivalent.
• Experience in project engineering on civil/infrastructure projects.
• Interest in front-end planning, constructability, and cost planning.

Responsibilities

• Support constructability and buildability reviews during tendering and pre-construction.
• Contribute inputs into estimating, pricing, and cost planning.
• Develop methodologies, staging, sequencing, and risk identification.
• Collaborate with commercial and delivery teams to shape scope.

At HEB, we’re looking for an Engineering Coordinator to strengthen the front end of our Tauranga projects and then transition into a site‑based Project Engineer role as construction gets underway. About the Role

As an Engineering Coordinator, you’ll work closely with our pre‑construction, estimating, commercial, and delivery teams to support projects during the early planning and set‑up phase. You’ll bring a practical, delivery‑focused engineering mindset to constructability reviews, pricing inputs, and troubleshooting, helping ensure projects are set up for success before they commence.

You’ll be office‑based in Tauranga initially, then transition into a Project Engineer or similar site role once construction commences, maintaining continuity from front end to delivery. This is not an engineering management role. Instead, it’s a development‑focused opportunity for someone who wants to expand their front‑end capability while staying close to delivery.

What You’ll Be Doing

Support constructability and buildability reviews during tendering and pre‑construction

Contribute engineering input into estimating, pricing, and cost planning

Assist with methodology development, staging, sequencing, and risk identification

Work alongside commercial and construction teams to shape scope and delivery approaches

Review drawings and documentation with a practical, solutions‑focused lens

Help identify and resolve potential issues before construction begins

Transition into a site‑based Project Engineer role during the construction phase

About You

You’re a capable, hands‑on Project Engineer who enjoys thinking beyond the immediate task and wants to understand how and why projects are put together.

You’ll bring:

A degree in Civil Engineering (or similar)

Proven experience as a Project Engineer on civil or infrastructure projects

Strong interest in constructability, estimating, pricing, and early project planning

Confidence working across engineering, commercial, and delivery teams
