Job summary

Contact Energy in Wellington is seeking a data-driven analyst to join our Market Development & Optimisation team on a 12‑month fixed‑term contract. You will apply quantitative analysis to support pricing, reporting, and commercial decisions across the Trading and wholesale businesses.

You will partner with stakeholders, develop pricing tools, and expand reporting coverage while gaining exposure to how data informs strategy in New Zealand's energy market.

Qualifications

• 2–3 years experience in data analysis or quantitative analysis in a commercial or professional setting.
• Coding capability using Python, R or similar analytical tools.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work through complex information and requirements.
• Commercial awareness and understanding how analysis informs business decisions.
• Confidence in building relationships with a range of stakeholders.
• Proactive approach, sound judgement, translating technical detail to business priorities.
• A relevant qualification in Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science, Finance, Science, or a related discipline.

Responsibilities

• Apply quantitative analysis to support pricing activities, energy agreements, and commercial decision-making.
• Help develop and expand reporting that supports sales activities and channel management strategy.
• Partner with stakeholders across Trading and wholesale to turn complex data into clear insights and recommendations.
• Contribute to ongoing development of pricing tools, reporting processes, and systems used across the Trading group.
• Work across a mix of technical analysis, stakeholder engagement, reporting, and commercial exposure.
