Job summary

Gallagher is seeking an Embedded Software Engineer in Hamilton to design, develop and support embedded software close to hardware in an agile team. You’ll work with embedded Linux/RTOS on ARM-based silicon, contribute to secure boot, cryptography considerations and CI-driven testing to deliver robust, long-lifecycle solutions for security products.

Qualifications

• A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent industry experience.
• At least 3 years' commercial software development experience
• Strong Embedded C/C++ development skills
• Knowledge of digital electronics, microprocessors and embedded systems
• Experience with debugging tools, version control systems and modern development environments
• Experience with automated testing and software quality practices
• Understanding of multi-threaded and asynchronous applications
• Exposure to board bring-up, driver development or embedded Linux environments
• Python and/or Ruby experience would be advantageous
• The ability to work effectively within an agile, cross-functional team
• Exposure to cryptography, embedded security concepts or Zephyr OS is a plus

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain embedded software components and features
• Collaborate with hardware engineers on board bring-up, debugging and software integration
• Contribute to requirements, solution design and technical documentation
• Analyse software performance and identify opportunities for improvement
• Support existing products through troubleshooting and technical problem solving
• Participate in code reviews, automated testing and quality improvement initiatives
• Estimate work, manage priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes within agile teams
• Continuously develop your technical capability and contribute to engineering best practice
