Job summary

Omexom New Zealand in Mount Wellington seeks an electrical engineer to provide technically sound drawings, specifications and analyses for construction and tendering needs. The role includes power system studies, design of protection and control systems, and engineering documentation across project lifecycles.

You will coordinate with multiple teams under Omexom’s QM19 procedures, ensure safety, reliability, and performance, and contribute to a strong, safety‑driven engineering culture.

Responsibilities

• Produce cost‑effective drawings, specifications, calculations, simulations and reports for construction or tendering.
• Coordinate engineering aspects of projects per Omexom ISO9001 and QM19.
• Perform power system studies: load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, arc flash, harmonics, contingencies.
• Prepare engineering calculations, single line diagrams, protection philosophy and construction docs.
• Support tendering, planning, procurement, construction, commissioning and handover.
• Design and verify protection and control systems and perform risk assessments.

About the Role

Looking for your next big opportunity? We’ve got an excitingrole just for you. In this position, you’ll provide technically appropriate and cost-effective drawings, specifications, calculations, simulations, engineering investigations, and reports on solutions to meet practical construction and/ or tendering requirements making a real impact.

• Preparing technical documentation in accordance with the best engineering practice
• Coordinating the engineering aspects of projects in accordance with Omexom ISO9001 systems and Omexom Design Control Procedures QM19
• Perform power system studies including load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, arc flash, harmonic, and contingency analyses to support safe and reliable network operation.
• Prepare engineering calculations, technical specifications, design reports, single line diagrams, protection philosophies, and construction documentation.
• Provide technical support during project tendering, planning, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover phases
• Design and verify protection and control systems, including relay settings, protection coordination, fault analysis, and system reliability assessments.
• Conduct engineering reviews, feasibility studies, and risk assessments to ensure projects achieve required performance, reliability, safety, and resilience objectives.
• Understanding and implementing the company health and safety policy and taking reasonable care of own health and safety and the health and safety of others

Qualifications and skills

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and/ or a proven track record of engineering design in the Electrical sector
• Ability to interpret relevant electrical standards and apply sound engineering judgement to complex technical problems.
• Strong understanding of HV and LV power system design, protection systems, earthing, and network operations.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
